Mentorship Program

For 22 years, The Outlet’s Mentorship Program has transformed the lives of boys and young men in Springfield. Built on consistent relationships, positive role models, and community connection, the program has helped hundreds of youth grow into confident, responsible young men.

How the Program Works

Boys and young men ages 8–22 from single-parent homes are paired with positive male mentors who commit to building strong, lifelong relationships. Mentors and mentees meet regularly to:

  • Discuss life, identity, and the journey to manhood

  • Participate in group workshops and character-building activities

  • Take educational trips and experience new environments

  • Build trust, confidence, and a sense of purpose

Proven Outcomes

Participants in The Outlet’s Mentorship Program have:

  • Graduated high school

  • Enrolled in college or trade school

  • Become entrepreneurs

  • Returned to The Outlet as mentors

  • Reported increased confidence, identity, and direction

The program’s impact is generational—changing the trajectory of young men, their families, and the Springfield community.

Our Roots: A Legacy of Community Support

The Outlet Academy proudly continues the work started by Mr. Betts and Rev. Hale through the Springfield Branch NAACP. Their Back to School Stay in School initiative laid the foundation for a community-driven approach to keeping students engaged in school. When the NAACP transitioned leadership of the program to The Outlet, it ensured continuity, expanded mentorship, and strengthened support for Springfield youth.

Our Vision

A community where every student is surrounded by support, restored in confidence, and prepared to thrive in school, work, and life.
